WSJT-X v1.4 RC 1 now available

On October 1st, the developers of the popular WSJT-X software released the public beta of their latest edition, v1.4 RC 1. Under development for several months, this new version brings many new enhancements along with many internal changes to clean up code and make the entire package more easily maintained.

Among the significant improvements are:

  • Much improved CAT control
  • Multiple menus combined into singe Settings screen
  • Better handling of audio streams, compound calls, garbage decodes, font selection and localization conventions
  • Several more changes to enhance overall usage and system standardization

For OS X users, one of the biggest and best changes is eliminating the need to manually edit the INI file to configure CAT control.  The new Settings screen allows for CAT, PTT and audio to be easily configured for just about any setup.

WSJT-X still supports JT65 and JT9, including simultaneous decoding of both modes.  Overall, the appearance of WSJT-X has not changed much with the new version, but there has been noticeable and extensive polishing of the user interface.

As always, the latest version of WJST-X can be downloaded from the WJST site here.  There are two versions for OS X — one for OS X 10.7 and 10.8, and another for OS X 10.9.  Installation instructions can be found in the new v1.4 user guide.
